The End of Macy's in Traverse City

Department stores are having a rough go of things right now. Being born in the 70s and spending much of the late 80s / early 90s working in a mall, they were an important part of teenager culture then. My own teenager rarely goes to the mall, so there was quite a generational shift. And with online shopping being the primary way people spend their money these days, empty mall stores are a common site.

(If you're curious, I worked Meridian Mall in Okemos, at Babbage's, a software and video game store.)

Macy's announced last year that they were closing their store in Grand Traverse Mall. That time is growing nigh, and everything in the store is now on clearance. The vultures (like me) have landed and are picking over the slim pickings that remain in the once-mighty Macy's.

Though there were all kinds of wonderful things for sale, I limited my purchase to socks. Yes, boring old socks. The mannequins and shelves were very tempting, but they just wouldn't fit our Greilickville decor.

Goodbye Macy's!
