Just when you thought road construction in Traverse City couldn't get worse, we got this announcement from the Grand Traverse Road Commission's Facebook page:
We're excited to announce that construction on Barney Rd is set to begin Monday, September 15!
During the project, Barney Rd will be closed to through traffic, and vehicles will be rerouted via Cedar Run Rd.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve our roads. Thank you for your cooperation!

As you are aware, or should be if you live within 50 miles of Traverse City, M-22 has been under major construction since the spring. Today, they are taking it down to one lane to do paving work. This is the same time period when the Grand Traverse County Road Commission decided to close the major way that locals get around the mess on 22. They couldn't have held off two days to close the road. This is why most of us think road construction project planners are among the most capricious group of people in the country.
I agree that Barney Road needs to be fixed - it's the worst road in the county. But right now? Not later in the week? C'mon man.
