Winter gives up the ghost slowly in Northern Michigan. We have several false springs before the final, short, and actual spring occurs, lasts about a week, and we are into the high humidity and crushing traffic that is a Traverse City summer. And while most of the snow is gone now (at least until it snows again), the slopes of Hickory Hills have just a bit of icy covering left. I would guess that even the most desperate skiers would not try to challenge that run, but I've been wrong before.

Nearby, in the forest of Hickory Woods, wildflowers peak through their winter covering to brave the still-chilly air for their brief blooming.

Be ready for spring, and pay attention, lest you miss it.
