A building no one will miss has gone missing.
The Master Dry Cleaners on Pine between Front and State is gone. Above is the "before" picture. And now, the "after picture":
I was trying to remember if this place had been open in the past five years (I moved to TC in 2020), but I don't think so.
What is the space being cleared for. For now, nothing. Rumors have been swirling about another downtown parking deck, but those rumors have been around for a few years. City council members have been complaining about lack of parking, then reduce the number of available spaces as they gut the lot on Grandview between Union and Cass constructing a farmers market pavilion. Does TC need another ramp. No, probably not. Do they care about the opinion of a blogger living in Leelanau County? Definitely not.
I would like to see that area used for a 5 Guys. After the demise of J & S Burger on Front Street, the area could use another burger place. Mexican is well-represented there, with the excellent Barrio and the sub-par Tacos and Tequila, and burgers are crowd pleasers. But that is not going to happen. A parking ramp at worse, condos at best.
One last shot of the area. That rounded building on the right will be the next to go. That's a guess, but a ramp or a condo building will generate more city revenue than the business that is there now.
