For too long, the east side of the Boardman has been separated from the west. Now.... togetherness! You know, something like that.
Behold, the birthplace of a bridge:

This is the former site of Sabin Dam which was removed in 2018 and depriving Traverse City of hydroelectric power. For years, if you wanted to get to the other side of the river to hike on those trails, you had to park in a different parking lot. Oh, the humanity! Soon, you will be able to saunter on over like you own the place.
Because storage is cheap, here is another picture of the site:

The Sabin Dam trailhead of the Boardman River Trail has a special place it my heart. I remember standing by the water and being amazed at the beauty of this spot. The bridge will take away a little of that, but if you put a hand up by your eye, you can block it out and pretend the area is untouched my humans. Or maybe those new AI can filter it out if you tell it to.

The $1.5 million, 160-foot bridge will be done when it's done, so don't be impatient. If you want to hike on the other side, which is not as interesting as the Cass-side anyways, use the other parking lot. When completed, the porcupines can get to the other side whenever they want. Speaking of, here is a random picture of a porcupine:
