Union Street Station

All things come to an end, including bars with really old histories. Union Street State, a fixture of State Street since 1892, has its last day today. There is a he said, they said issue of building repair issues and the current owners of the bar can't afford the bill the building owner is charging them with, so last call is tonight. Admittedly, I didn't visit Union Street State much. As a live music venue, I went a couple of times, but I was far from a regular - three times in six years of living in Traverse City makes me far from one of those. But I liked the fact it was there, that great stained-glass window above the door, and the feel of an old place, way older than you, that would probably outlast you. Alas, that didn't come, but I hope that the USS can keep going in some way.

A few photos. That poor pole out front didn't deserve that kind of treatment.

Not a huge beer selection, but enough for a music venue. And it has the wooden bar that gives it that extra oomph in character.

The decor won't win any awards, but that pressed tin ceiling is great and check out that stained glass. It's a cornucopia, one of my favorite words.

Facing back towards the stage. Think of the thousands of hours of music that was played.
