The trail to the top of Sugar Loaf, previously a ski hill in the middle of Leelanau County, opened last month. We've hiked to the top a few times now, and the view are spectacular. Don't be intimidated that it is a hill - plenty people of all ages and abilities get to the top. A little winded perhaps, but they make it.
The gravel trail is wide, very nice because both times we have hiked it, there have been quite a few people. The regular trail curves to the left, but there are some crazy people that go up that thin trail in the middle.
Once to get on the hill, the views are incredible. Little Traverse Lake is in the foreground with Lake Michigan and North Manitou Island in the distance.
And a different angle. That is east side of Little Traverse Lake, with the hills south of Leland on the right. The fall colors were spectacular on that October weekend.
