Perico Preserve, Florida

As I write this, it is winter here in Michigan, with wind chills far below zero. So I decided I would delve into my photos and memories and pull something from a warmer time, and I discovered our trip to Anna Maria Island, Florida in April of 2018. Those were good times that didn't involve the risk of frostbite after a few minutes of exposure. Sand, sun, margaritas, fish, fries, water, margaritas - some of my favorite things.

Early one morning, I departed for a short trip to the Perico Preserve in Bradenton. Just across the bridge from the island, it was easy to get to, and it was another beautiful morning in Florida. We had a lot of those. I chose the early morning because I didn't want to waste any beach time. The preserve was very easy to find with plenty of parking considering the size of the trail system. And I was the only one there - that always makes my heart feel super happy.

The trails are very easy to follow, wide and well-maintained. Biking is also permitted on certain trails. If spying on our feathered friends is your thing, you can dip into the bird blinds and take a peek at the numerous bird species that visit the preserve. But remember to leave the dog at home. Fido is not welcome, lest he run after the birds trying to get a vacation of their own.

Though I didn't hang out in the blinds, I did spot a bird of my own. I'm not sure what is was - we don't have them in Michigan, I know that much - but he seemed pretty relax.
