An obsidian guardian is an animated suit of obsidian armor created to function as guards. It obeys simple commands from its creator, but these are limited to one or two rudimentary concepts. Because an obsidian guardian cannot be given advanced commands, they are typically not used as soldiers, being unable to adapt to the ever-changing battlefield situation.

An obsidian guardian cannot speak, but it understands commands in its creator�s language.

Combat

An obsidian guardian attacks mindlessly with its weapons. They are straightforward combatants and, even if there are multiple obsidian guardians, they are unable to use advanced tactics such as flanking.

Obsidian Healing: An obsidian guardian can heal itself whenever it comes into contact with a source of obsidian. One ounce of obsidian will heal one point of damage. If there is no source of obsidian, an obsidian guardian cannot heal.

Obsidian Immunity: An obsidian guardian is immune to weapons made of obsidian. If the obsidian weapon is magical, only its magical bonus will damage an obsidian guardian. Any obsidian weapon striking an obsidian guardian must make a DC 15 save or shatter, giving the guardian a source of obsidian from which to heal.

Construct Traits: An obsidian guardian is immune to mind-affecting effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, necromantic effects, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save unless it also works on objects. The creature is not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, ability drain, energy drain, or death from massive damage. It heal itself using its obsidian healing ability or through repair by its creator. It cannot be raised or resurrected. An obsidian guardian has darkvision (60-foot range.)

Construction

The cost of creating an obsidian guardian is 30,000 cp. This amount includes the cost of a masterwork suit of obsidian heavy armor. Construction requires a masterwork martial weapon. Assembling the body requires a successful Craft (armorsmithing) check (DC 25).

The creator must be at least 15th level and able to cast arcane spells. Completing the ritual drains 900 XP from the creator and requires the fabricate, geas/quest, and mend spells.
