Wells of Balic

The city of Balic, the thriving metropolis that it is, has a great demand for water. Luckily for the residents, the caverns underneath the city collect the water from the fierce Tyr-storms, as well as underground springs, to provide the population with a steady supply. Fourteen wells delve through the rocks to the water beneath, a few of which are described below.

Beggars's Well

Located in northern Balic near the border of the North Quarters and the Bards Quarter, this is a simple pulley operated stone block well. Two upside down V-shaped stone structures support a wooden crossbeam, from which dangles a bucket attached with giant hair rope. Guards are posted at all hours to prevent anyone from monopolizing the well or poisoning it. Surrounding the well are several shops and restaurants and taverns. Balconies just jut from many of the second 2nd storyies of the buildings around it and are popular with working-class locals.

Deceivers' Well

Located on the western edge of the Bards Quarter, this simple well of dirty yellow stone often runs dry, but it is the most convenient place for many of the poorest residents to get their water. A Tomblador guard casually watches the area to ensure each has a fair share of the water, though the assigned guard is often away. The well gets its name from its propensity for a meeting place for the less than trustworthy elements of Balics criminal society. Many a deal has been made near the well, and breaking those deals is not an uncommon occurrence.

Traders' Well

This well is found in the southeast of the city. The Rees-controlled well is located in a square where three streets meet, the T-shaped crossing forming a circular space where the well sits. A crescent-shaped well hugs the wall of the plaza underneath an expertly carved bas relief of traders negotiating under the Mageleneon, with the White Palace above them. Statues of famous members of House Rees are placed in the square, with lady Essens dominating the group, and ever-watchful Rees guards clad in green stand nearby.
