Silver Mines

Veins of silver run beneath the Balican plains and the areas north and south of the Estuary of the Forked Tongue. To reach the valuable metal, a dozen mines have been constructed over the past several centuries. Most are controlled by one of the three merchant Houses, mines seized once Balic was no longer controlled by Andropinis. A few remain in the hands of the patrician houses who remove and refine the ore, which is then used mainly for currency.

Fort Glamis protects the westernmost mine, having been constructed atop it. Though this mine is no longer the most productive, it still generates a significant amount of wealth for the House Wavir.

To the west of the city lies the smelting facility for all mines in the region. This heavily guarded facility receives shipment of raw ore from all mines (whether owned by patricians or merchant Houses), processes it, and then sends the finished good to its proper destination, whether that be to one of the House vaults in the city or back to the noble house from whose mines it was brought.
