Perogun ArchIn southeast Balic on Dakostas Road stands Perogun Arch, all that remains of a small community of intellectuals. Arch is a misnomer, as jagged columns on either side of the road are all that remains of the span. The arch marked the entrance to Thinkers Corner, a small plaza that housed some of the citys famous philosophers. The dead-end square was framed by elegant townhouses, each decorated with statues or plants to suit the individuality of the owner. Neighbors mingled within the small sculpture garden in the center of the plaza, discussing ideas of importance to the city. Andropinis correctly guessed that members of the Veiled Alliance lived in Thinkers Corner. He ordered templars into the plaza, a late night mission to capture enemies of Balic. The mission turned into a spell battle between the Alliance and the templars that led to dozens of deaths and the destruction of much of the plaza and surrounding buildings. The old square was eventually demolished and rebuilt, now serving as a residential neighborhood housing many fine craftsmen and shopkeepers. The Perogun Arch is the only sign of the original area's past. In the aftermath of the destruction, the sorcerer-king blamed the Alliance for the death and destruction which led to harsh feeling against the Veiled Alliance. Decades passed before the Alliance was able to gain sympathies once again because of the numerous harsh treatments upon the citizens of Balic. The arch is named after the wizard Perogun, who inflicted vicious casualties on the templars during the fierce battle that destroyed Thinkers Corner, though only scholars remember the origin of the name. |
