Behind the Scenes

A hot, still day greeted those at the Balican Common, and though the temperature was not a comfortable one, it was much preferable to the windy week that had just ended, the blowing sand keep most outdoors activities to a minimum.

Karthum, dressed in the familiar red livery of House Tomblador, approached the Common. He typically was not found outside of the grounds of the House, but he thought he would make an appearance to the crowds of Balic and get away from the day to day drudgery that had become his life as of late.

"Greetings one and all," he cried as he ascended the stairs to the main Common floor. "Introductions are necessary. I am Karthum, of House Tomblador. You are faithful listeners. Now, let us proceed!"

"A merchant coster led by Artees Adaino has settled on the outskirts of our city. This new business will provide caravan services to the major Houses of Balic such as guards and manual labor, which have been growing a bit hard to find, as business is quite good as of late." Some of the patrons looked skeptical at the last remark. "Eager job seekers can find the coster at the old House Vesanes estate - now that the descendants of that House appear to have left the Balican region for good, the council has given permission of the coster to settle there."

"The next gladiatorial games will be a week from this very day. As always, the public is most welcome to enjoy the spectacle, the food, and even to compete in the games!" Karthum lowered his voice, is an exaggerated conspiratory tone. "My money is on Javgal, but he's a Tomblador man, so I may be a little biased."

"Finally, the silt skimmer Xavium's Voyage has been reported as missing, as it was expected in port two days ago. The disappearance is being blamed on the giants, but no one really knows for sure. A sad event, to be sure."

"Good bye, good luck, and may you find shelter from the Tyr storms." Karthum concluded his speech and left the Common.

Behind the Scenes

The departure of House Vesanes is a bit of a mystery. Years ago, the entire family had stated to friendly noble houses that it was leaving for Gulg for an extended business expedition. No one has heard from them since. The lands of Vesanes are highly prized, and it was rumored that the Adaino family paid a steep price to the council for rights to settle there.
