The Balican Crier, Issue 7
About the Crier Kavira made her way through the busseling crowd outside the Balican Common area. A temporary market had been set up by several local merchants to sell their goods, and from the large amounts of customers surrounding the carts and tents, sales were brisk. The blue-clad employee of House Wavir climbed the handful of steps to the lower area of the Common. Most of the patrons watched her as she drew closer, her face familiar to them now. Unlike the others Houses, notably Tomblador, Wavir chose to keep the same crier with which to deliver the events in the city. "Good day," Kavira began, gaining the attention of most of those eating in the Balican Common. "I hope the past weeks have found you well. For those unfamiliar with me, I am Kavira, official crier of House Wavir, here to present you with the news of the day here in our wonderful city."
"The Whispering Kank, a skimmer from a northern trading town, limped into the harbor. The captain, Nemi Ahlandis, claimed the ship was attacked by pirates just before entering The Estuary of the Forked Tongue, just west of Ledo. The pirate vessel was constructed of black wood and was incredibly fast. Mages from the myserious ships hurled balls of rock hard silt that ripped through sails and wood of the Kank. Captain Ahlandis and his crew escaped by the fortunate arrival of a tribe of approaching giants, which pursued the black ship, but not The Whispering Kank." "The last gladiatorial contest in the arena brought a new star. Vessnus, a dwarven warrior, bested all challengers and won the 100 cp prize. This recent resident of Balic's southeast side bested three others in non-lethal combat with spectacular moves and a quickness belying his stout statur. The owner of the Wind in Sail tavern has been giving the warrior free food and and drink at his establishment, which has been drawing extra customers to see he newest champion." "A new merchant has moved into the elven market. Yve and her female halfing assistant Noora have opened a booth selling baskets of reeds from the mountains far to the west. Ladies and gentlemen, I can vouch for these baskets, as reeds are very sturdy, and the baskets are of good quality. Yve also sells lovely rings of light gray marble. They are quite lovely, and as you can see, I have one myself." Kavira held up her hand to display the attractive piece of jewelry on her finger. "Thank you for your attention, and good day," Kavira concluded, then descended the steps and back through the market. |
