Behind the Scenes

A sharply dressed man in the green and silver of House Rees marched directly through the milling crowd in and around the Balic Common. He had a determined look on his clean shaven face, and when he reached the tree at the center of the common, he began his speech.

"Attention, attention," he said in a strong and clear voice. "I am Ordelon of House Rees, and my duty is to report the news of the day. Thus shall it be done."

"Once more, a murder has occured in our city. In the Bard's Quarter, in Tomblador held Balic to be sure, another body was found, this one a sailor from a recently docked ship. Though it has not been mentioned before, I now must give to you more details of such an occurence, for perhaps one of you may be successful where other attempts at discovering the culprit have failed. The corpse was attacked by claw and teeth - this you know. However, what was also noted was that his body was conspiculously missing much of the blood that should be at such a scene."

"My apologies, ma'am. Surely I did not want to reveal such details at a time of eating," he said to a woman who had put down her fork after the criers description of the crime. "But it may be a clue of which the investigators so far have not been able to desipher."

"The discussion has begun once more on how best to proceed regarding the building of a wall to protect King's Field, the farming community where much of Balic's food is grown. The discussion will be held two days from now in the Senatorial Chambers. Any citizens who would like to contribute to this discussion are welcome to joing Houses Rees, Wavir, and Tomblador."

"Lastly, House Arostenes will be holding the public party for Micksha's birth here in the Common in ten days. Lady RaPay has promised food for all, though you may wish to arrive earlier, for surely there will be quite a crowd here to enjoy the generosity of a noble house."

Ordelon bowed quickly. "Thank you for your attention. Good day." He then left the Common, leaving the patrons to their meal.

Behind the Scenes

The murders are being commited by Berghan Dammas, an ex-sailor killed at sea, who has returned as a Silt Wight. Three weeks ago, several members of the crew of the Carrelus robbed Berghan of the few meager possession he owned, then killed him, dumping his body over the side and into the Silt Sea. The Carrelus continued onto Balic, and Berghan rose as a Silt Wight and followed the ship to Balic.

The first murder was one of the sailer involved in his murder. Afterwards, The Carrelus left Balic and out of range of Berghans ability to detect his killers (see below.) The next murder, the following week, was a homeless drunk that Berghan killed for sustenance. The third murder was another member of the Carrelus - the ship returned a day before the murder.

Berghan will continue the killings as long as he survives. Though he was once a good man, his undead status has corrupted his mind, and he will continue to kill and feed until he is destroyed.
