Background: Lethen is elven alchemist, specializing
in poisons and ointments for healing simple illnesses and aches. He was
born into the elven tribe Obsidian Klathums, a tribe that was typically
found in the southern Tablelands, ranging from Tyr to Balic and as far
south as Celik and The Dead Lands.
Lethen was the runt of the litter, so to speak. Shorter than most
elves, he was ridiculed early on for his height. In addition, his
wrinkled skin made him stand out from the rest of his tribe. He tolerated
their tauntings because he had no choice - they were the only life he
truly knew. It was from them that he initally learned his trade of
alchemy, and the different plants of Tablelands.
One visit to Balic was a life changing one for Lethen. As he wandered
the streets, scheduled to return to his tribe that night, his elven
companions left him in the city, deciding they would be a stronger, faster
tribe without him. Alone, but not distraught, he used his knowledge of
herbs and plants to at first assist an old human alchemist, and then
take over the business when the old man died. He has run the shop for
almost thirty years and has a reputation as an honest merchant who can
make or find nearly anything a customer may need.
Much to his own amusement, his old elf tribe visits his shop when
they are in Balic. They often sell him the plants that he needs to create
his wares. When the elves enter, he usually wears a basic disguise to
hide his appearance. He holds no real grudge, as he feels he is much better
off now than he would have been with his tribe, though he would take a
certain amount of delight if anything unfortunate should happen to his old
tribemates.
Combat: Lethen will attempt to escape from any
dangerous situation. He is not a warrior, and does not have the training
to stand against any strong foe. If cornered, he will use his stone
dagger which he has coated with a sleeping poison.
Personality: The elf is not one for small talk - he is
all business. He speaks with a low, sometimes mumbling voice and dressed
in a dirty tan hooded cloak. For regular customers, he will allow himself
to speak more in depth about his work and, for those he trusts, will offer
jobs to retrieve certain herbs and pick up ingredients from distant city-states,
should the customer find himself there.
