The main attraction of Fez was the medina, or 'old city.' It was definately an experience I'll remember, and while it wasn't the most pleasant of places, it was an eye opener to another culture. One of the stops was the rug shop. Essentially, this stop is so the tour guides can get kick backs from the shop owners, but at least we got some mint tea out of the deal. The rugs were very nice, but very expensive. The most expensive one we saw was $31,000. That's US dollars, people. A bit much for a rug. Another stop in the old city was the tannery, which is the worst smelling place I have ever been, and that includes when I had to clean the garbage compactor at Goff. Just think dead animal skins and a hot sun. 'Nuff said. |
